A gallery study arranged around a tall entrance hall. High windows bring light above the display walls, leaving them free for changing exhibitions.
The brief
Give a small gallery the flexibility to host changing exhibitions and occasional talks. The building needed a clear public route, useful wall space and an atmosphere that would support very different kinds of work.
The response
A tall entrance hall leads to a sequence of quieter rooms. Clerestory light leaves the main walls available for exhibitions, while a broad stair connects the upper level without interrupting the ground floor. A restrained palette lets each exhibition establish its own character.
